Almodovar at his best! More male-female balanced than Volver.

Cruz was good and beautiful. The film is worth seeing, despite some unlikely turnarounds. The style is a change from american movies (not many european movies are available in movie theaters)

What a mess!. this movie is good at times but slow and boring at others. It's up and down and all over the place. The actors provide strong performances, but it feels like the scripts they discuss during the movie would be a lot better. I would only recommend it as a rental.

I'm a big Almodovar fan, but this wasn't up to his usual brilliance. Penelope Cruz was wonderful as always, but the script lacked intrigue. *SPOILER AHEAD* And who wants to see Penelope getting abused and doing nothing about it? The film was pretty much a downer with hardly any humour, something I look forward to in an Almodovar picture. It wasn't as confusing as Bad Education, but at least that one had a more interesting premise. If it wasn't for Cruz this would be a very standard film.

I'm not a huge fan of Almodovar, but I enjoyed this film very much. By far his best in the last 5 yrs.

What can one say about a Pedro Almodóvar movie? He is an auteur, which means to appreciate or review his films, one has to accept to enter into his cinematic world. A world with Hitchcock like psychological suspense, multi-layer melodrama, pseudo-intellectual morality, ambiguous sexual identities, drop-dead femme fatales, 50s Hollywood aesthetics (lighting, colour schemes, musical score) and above all, a knack to pull your heart strings despite the most outrageous plot-lines. “Broken Embrace” holds up to these standards. And he manages to hold me spellbound despite the fact that I prefer a simpler story-telling style. The actors are as usual outstanding. In particular, Lluís Homar Toboso, who plays a blind man but amazingly manages to transmit all his feelings and desire with his face. In addition, he reminds me of Patrick Swayze if had he lived to his 60s. Gracias Maestro Almodóvar!

This movie had me quite engrossed... for the first half. Then it kind of fell apart, and really dragged - could have used another trip through the editing room. Penelope is great though.

A spanish movie with a love story that needs great attention while watching in order not to get confused with the flashbacks (2008-1994-2008 again) It's "muy bien" (in spanish) and worth seeing.

Classic Almodovar high-melodrama, if a tad restrained. I liked it more than TALK TO HER but less than ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER which I think is his masterpiece. Pedro seems to be the only one who can make Penelope Cruz sparkle so much, she is outstanding in this. I would also love it if he completed and released the film-within-the-film, it looked crazy funny!

Another great movie from Almodovar with, as usual, a lot of plots and mix-up. Penelope Cruz is wonderful and has a real screen presence. Of the same calibre as "The Bad Education".

A fine psychological story with numerous details and symbols that can either be considered or ignored, depending on what the viewer wishes. Almodóvar holds us gripped to the screen every moment. Penélope Cruz shines both as an exceptional actor and a beautiful woman. Lluís Homar never steals a scene even while he is the central character. Bob Katz.

Wait for video if you're bored to death and have nothing to do. Otherwise forget about it. Boring... with a capital B.

Maestro Almodovar and his muse at their best. Love, drama, intrigue, humor... it has it all. If you are going to see one movie this is the one.

A winner for Pedro Almodovar for his latest film--It is Penelope Cruz's movie--she is breathtakingly gorgeous talented actress in her portrayal of Lena--a love triangle between Ernesto--middle- aged producer and her love interest, Harry--Matteo. A long movie but the final hour with its many twists and turns were the best--especially when Judith reveals the secrets to Harry and her son--a worthwhile film but not Pedro Almodovar's best film to date!

A film worth watching. However, Almodovar needs to look to films like Bad Education & High Heels for inspiration. His last 2 films have been a bit too predictable... lagging.
