'The Auteur Theory' is a miracle of inventiveness, a finely-wrought poisoned love letter to independent filmmaking made on a budget, by modern-day film standards, of two tin cans and a string of wire. Set in the netherworld of a newly-created student film festival, it delightfully skewers the obsession (and self-obsession) of its diverse crew of filmmakers and hangers-on.
