An epic portrait of late 60's America, as seen through the portrayal of two of its actors : anthropology student Daria, who's helping a property developer build a village in the Los Angeles desert and dropout Mark who's wanted by the authorities for allegedly killing a policeman during a student riot. By using special effects, documentary-style footage, and unusual camera angles, Antonioni succeeds in revealing how societal conflicts lead to anger--and violence.

It's worth seeing purely for the cinematography, to say nothing of a moody soundtrack that utilizes every early 70s legend from The Grateful Dead to Pink Floyd. The final explosion of a house and its contents in slow-motion is a dazzling, almost celebratory symbol of youthful dreams of ending consumerism.
