En 1958, Suite canadienne, a piece now considered as the founding work of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, was broadcasted on Radio-Canada during the concert hour. Over fifty years later, a troupe ventures to pay tribute to the work from a decolonial and introspective perspective, questioning the notions of national identity through dance. Olivier Godin immerses himself in the daily rehearsals and integrates an element of hybridity between documentary and fiction by bringing Ludmilla Chiriaeff, the original choreographer of Suite canadienne who passed away in 1996, back to life. Reality thus borrows from the manufactured capabilities of cinema, highlighting the playful and reflective potential of art in all its forms.
